Pregnant in week 32
In week 32 your baby is the size of a honeydew melon. Most babies now lie head-down, ready for birth. If you want the finest 3D images, week 33 is the last chance – book in good time.

Your baby in week 32
Your baby measures around 42 centimetres and weighs about 1,700 grams. It now puts on fat at a high pace, and the skin has become pink and smooth instead of wrinkled.
Most babies have now turned so they lie head-down – the best position for birth. The nails have grown all the way to the fingertips, and the downy hair gradually disappears.
The lungs continue to mature, and your baby practises breathing, sucking and swallowing. The immune system strengthens, as antibodies from you are now transferred through the placenta.
Your body and symptoms in week 32
The bump is large, and space inside gets smaller, so your baby's movements feel more like rolling, pressure and stretching than loose kicks. They should still be felt daily.
Braxton Hicks contractions, sore ribs when your baby kicks upwards, and frequent urination belong to this stage. Many sleep poorly and need frequent rests during the day.
You are followed more closely by your midwife now, who measures growth, blood pressure and your baby's position. If you are unsure about anything, it is always better to ask once too often.
Good advice for week 32
Last chance for 3D/4D
If you want to see your baby's face in 3D, week 33 is the last good week before space runs short. Book the upcoming appointment now.
Rest often
Your body works hard, and sleep is often broken. Short rests during the day and a good side-lying position help.
Watch for signs of labour
It is still too early, but learn the signs: regular increasing contractions, waters breaking or a bloody mucus plug. With signs before week 37, contact the maternity unit.
Prepare the practical side of leave
Sort out the crib, car seat, nappies and the basics at home while you have the energy. Then you are ready when your baby arrives.
Checklists for this stage
Tick things off as you go – the list remembers where you got to, and you can share it with your partner.

Frequently asked questions in week 32
What if my baby is breech?
Some babies still lie bottom-down now. Many turn on their own before birth, and your midwife can explain the options if yours doesn't.
Why does it hurt under my ribs?
When your baby lies head-down, the feet kick up against the ribs, and the uterus presses upwards. It is uncomfortable but harmless – change position to ease it.
Is it normal to have fewer big kicks?
Yes. With less room, movements become more rolling and pressure than big kicks. The amount should still be stable – react to clearly fewer.
