Before the birth – checklist

Hospital and arrangements

• The maternity record has a fixed place – and you both know where
• The maternity ward number is saved in both phones
• You know the route to the hospital and have checked parking
• Plan B for transport if the car or your partner is not there
• You have talked about your wishes for the birth – perhaps written them down for the midwife
• Antenatal class or course completed

Work and leave

• Pregnancy leave agreed with your employer – usually from 4 weeks before the due date Some collective agreements allow earlier leave.
• Your partner’s leave around the birth is agreed
• You have read up on parental leave rules at borger.dk
• Out-of-office reply and handover are ready

Home

• The hospital bag is packed – by 37+0 at the latest
• The car seat is fitted and you have practised
• The baby’s sleeping place is ready
• The freezer is stocked with easy meals
• Nappies, washcloths and the first clothes are washed and laid out
• Care for older children and pets is arranged
• Neighbours or family know roughly when you expect to leave

After the birth

Things that are easier to have thought about before you are holding a newborn.

• You have talked about names – the child must be named within 6 months
• You know how paternity/co-maternity is registered (borger.dk)
• You have agreed who hears the news first – and who waits
• Visits in the first days are agreed so you get some peace
• A reassurance scan in the final weeks if you need peace of mind We scan right up to the due date – same day if needed.
