Seeing your baby for the first time is hard to put into words – and the first weeks can hold both anticipation and uncertainty. We offer early scans from week 5+0, where we confirm the pregnancy, check that it is sitting correctly in the uterus, count how many are on the way and measure the baby, so you go home with a provisional due date. From week 6 we can usually see the heartbeat. There is room for both your questions and your feelings, and we calmly explain everything we see on the screen.

Frequently asked questions
When is the best time?
From week 5+0 we can see the pregnancy itself and establish that it is sitting where it should. The heart starts beating around week 6, and from week 6+3 to 7 we can usually see it clearly. If you are unsure how far along you are, pick a day or two later – that gives you the best chance of seeing the heart beat on the very first visit. The public system does not offer a first scan until weeks 11–13.
When can the heartbeat be seen?
The heart starts beating around week 6, though it can vary by a few days. From week 6+3 we usually see it clearly, and from week 7 almost always. If you want to be sure of seeing it on the first visit, book a couple of days into week 7.
Do I need a referral?
No. You book directly online, with no referral from a doctor or hospital.
Can I bring my partner or someone else?
Yes, and bring more than one if you like. There is plenty of room, and you can follow the whole scan on the big screen, so you experience it together. Children are very welcome too.
