Frequently asked questions
When is the best time?
Weeks 26–28 are usually best with twins. There is less room and less amniotic fluid in front of each face than with a single baby, and the space runs out quickly. If you wait until week 32, the chance of sharp images of the face is considerably lower. Better too early than too late.
Can you get both babies in the same image?
Sometimes it works – if they are lying close together and facing the right way, you get them both in one image. We always try, and either way you get images of each of them separately.
Why do you recommend coming earlier than with one baby?
Because there is less room. The amniotic fluid in front of the face is what makes a 3D image sharp, and with twins that space disappears sooner.
Is the rescan free?
Yes, if the images do not come out clearly. It is part of the large 3D/4D scan.
