Pregnant in the summer heat – how to take extra good care of yourself

The Danish summer can be wonderful, with long bright days, cold ice cream and time outdoors. But if you are pregnant, the warm months can also feel a little more challenging than usual.

Remember to drink water

When the temperature rises, your body needs more fluid – especially when you are pregnant. Make sure to drink regularly throughout the day, even when you don't feel thirsty.

A good tip from us is to carry a water bottle with you everywhere, or make the water a little more exciting with lemon, mint or frozen berries.

Keep your body cool

Loose, light clothing, breaks in the shade and cool baths can make a big difference. Many pregnant women also find that cooling their wrists, neck or feet with cold water or a cool cloth helps.

Listen to your body

It is completely normal to get tired or out of breath more quickly when you are pregnant, and the heat can amplify this further. Allow yourself to take breaks, seek shade and slow down when your body tells you it needs it.

Seek help if you feel unwell

If you experience dizziness, severe headaches, persistent nausea or feel unwell in the heat, it is a good idea to get into the shade, have something cold to drink and contact your doctor if the symptoms do not quickly improve.

As a pregnant woman, your body does an impressive job every single day. So perhaps summer is also an occasion to slow the pace, prioritise the breaks and be extra kind to yourself.
